Texto da wikipédia: "O Oratório de Natal (em alemão: Weihnachtsoratorium) BWV 248, é um oratório de Johann Sebastian Bach compilado para ser apresentado na igreja durante a época do Natal. Foi escrito para o Natal de 1734, incorporando a música de composições anteriores do próprio compositor, inclusive três cantatas seculares, escritas entre 1733 e 1734, e uma cantata extraviada nos dias de hoje, BWV 248a. A data é confirmada no manuscrito de Bach. A apresentação seguinte não foi antes de 17 de dezembro de 1857 pela "Sing-Akademie" de Berlim, regida por Eduard Grell. O "Oratório de Natal" é um exemplo particularmente sofisticado da técnica de Paródia Musical. O autor do texto é desconhecido, embora Christian Friedrich Henrici (Picander) tenha sido um possível colaborador. Essa obra pertence a um grupo de três oratórios escritos no final da carreira de Bach, em 1734 e 1735, para as principais festividades, sendo os outros o Oratório de Ascensão (BWV 11) e o Oratório de Páscoa (BWV 249). Todos eles incluem um tenor Evangelista como narrador e fazem paródia de composições anteriores, sendo o "Oratório de Natal" a obra mais longa e complexa. O oratório tem seis partes, sendo cada uma delas destinadas a apresentação em um dia das festas principais do período natalino. Modernamente, a peça é geralmente apresentada como um todo, ou dividida em duas partes iguais. A duração total da obra é aproximadamente três horas. De modo similar aos outros oratórios, um tenor Evangelista narra a história. A primeira parte (para o dia de Natal) descreve o Nascimento e a Nominação de Jesus; a segunda (para o dia 26 de dezembro), a Anunciação aos Pastores; a terceira (para 27 de dezembro), a Adoração dos Pastores; a quarta (para o Dia de Ano Novo), a Circuncisão de Jesus; a quinta (para o domingo após o Ano Novo), a Jornada dos Reis Magos, e a sexta (para a Epifania), a Adoração dos Reis Magos".
